Hi there,
In the manual I coulnd't find information (or overlooked it) which codecs are actually supported by Alley for encoding into dvx3. Seems like Avids DNX is not supported? Just ProRes?
Thanks for the info & cheers
Supported codeds in Alley
Re: Supported codeds in Alley
Alley and Resolume should be able to play what your OS can. + DXV and Prores.
You can check what your OS can do natively by opening up Movies and TV on windows, and Quickview on OSX.
I'd guess your os can't do Avid's DNX either.

Re: Supported codeds in Alley
Is Apple AIC supported? With MacOS 10.13.6, I can play AIC .mov clips in Quicktime 7, but Alley doesn't accept them for converting, and it only plays the audio but doesn't show video.
Re: Supported codeds in Alley
Can OSX QuickView play it?

Re: Supported codeds in Alley
What is OSX Quickview? How do I play a .mov file with it?
Re: Supported codeds in Alley
Hmm, could be called Quicklook... open Finder, select your file and press Space, this should open a preview of the file.
This should use the base OSX capabilities. Quicktime has it's own plugins, and Resolume is not using Quicktime any more to play files.
If it plays, I'd guess Resolume and Alley should be able to play it too. Please send us a sample file with this codec to mail@resolume.com and we can then check it out.
Thanks!

Re: Supported codeds in Alley
ok, pressing the space bar plays the video, this works.
I will send you the file.
I will send you the file.
Re: Supported codeds in Alley
The file was too large for E-mailing, 64 MB. I trimmed it with Quicktime to 2 seconds, but the size doesn't change, still 64 MB?!
Re: Supported codeds in Alley
Sounds like growing quicktime, maybe that's why it doesn't play in Alley?
Wetransfer should work, I'll also send you a pm with a link you can use.

Re: Supported codeds in Alley
Thanks, checked the file. It's Apple intermediate codec indeed.
None of my OSX machines play it in Finder, tried on high sierra, el capitan and Catalina.
Quicktime on the Catalina machine says it's unsupported, the machine I have Final Cut installed plays it in quicktime, and one wanted to convert it. I think it's safe to say that OSX doesn't have native support for the file, and that's why Alley doesn't play it either.
