cannot assign video effects to dashboard dials

I created several compositions linked to Abelson live with MIDI controlling the clip selection in resolume.
There are default effects assigned to the eight dashboard dials. When I deleted the link on the dials and tried to add different video effects to the dials, the effects will not attach any of the links (link 1 through link 8). Dragging the effects does not do anything to the dashboard dials. Dragging effects does place them on a dashboard list below the dials. What is needed to make these links attach to the dials?

To add a parameter to the Dashboard, simply drag it to the dial you need it at. If you want to be nerdy and take more time than necessary, you can also select Dashboard from the animation drop down, and then select the dial you want.
