Hello !
So I have two MacBook Pros that I am essentially trying to link Ableton and Resolume together to control video via a MIDI signal. What I would like to do is have a MIDI signal being sent out of Ableton (ex. a long-held C3 note) that essentially controls the video in Resolume. I know this is possible, but for the life of me, all I can find is how to use a midi controller to launch the clips in Resolume. I will be using a midi controller to control Ableton, but I want the video of Resolume to just be triggered by a midi signal that is being sent (for example, launching a song in clip view that would also launch the midi note, sending that midi note to Resolume which would launch the video). I have no problem linking both computers via MIDI link and network link via Ethernet, but just can't figure out how to route this.
Any help on how to link this would be great!

Have you seen the https://resolume.com/support/en/midi-shortcuts ?

Re: Ableton and Resolume
You probably want to look into something like rtpMIDI. I've only used it on Windows machines but the person that built it has some good documentation on it https://www.tobias-erichsen.de/software/rtpmidi.html
There's also this page from Apple which might help you out https://developer.apple.com/documentati ... networking

Re: Ableton and Resolume
Should be easy. I have instructions below on doing it with MIDI. You could also get the Ableton patches for Resolume that are somewhere on this forum, and use them to control Resolume via OSC. That has its own instructions. For MIDI however...
1. follow these directions on each Mac:
https://support.apple.com/guide/audio-m ... ms1012/mac
(This is similar to rtpMIDI on Windows, and compatible with it. It is built-in to MacOS.)
This will set up a MIDI device on each Mac that is actually connected to the network. So MIDI out that you send from Ableton to the network MIDI device will be received as MIDI input on the network MIDI device in Resolume.
2. Enable both ends (ie setup the MIDI output on Ableton, and the MIDI input on Resolume).
3. Launch your Ableton set.
4. Start Resolume and go into MIDI mapping mode. Select the video you want to launch.
5. Trigger your cue in Ableton. Resolume should catch it and assign it to the video.
It's pretty seamless. If you have trouble it is likely to be in step 2.

Re: Ableton and Resolume
On reading more carefully, it sounds like you have the network MIDI part covered, and that you need more help with the exact routing.
It seems like an effective way to do this might be to configure the External Instrument plugin in Ableton. This is designed to send MIDI to external hardware. So set it up, and have it use the network MIDI port.
So in effect you are configuring Resolume as if it were an external hardware synth in Ableton.
You shouldn't need to do anything special on the Resolume end other than the initial MIDI mapping.
You should also look up the Ableton -> Resolume Max For Live patches. That will also work.
