Crash on windows store background updater?

Post by joshuapflugrath »

Hey all!

Using Arena 7.9 with latest nvidia studio drivers, and I keep getting crashes at random times. I've done everything I can think to make sure it's not a specific deck/layer/file, or even time interval on when it happens. The only thing I know for sure is that it only happens when changing decks *sometimes* (and fortunately in non-critical parts of the show  )

If it helps - during the crash Arena will still pass blackmagic SDI inputs through to the video processor (thankfully) but the program itself becomes unresponsive. As since I haven't been able to re-create it reliably, and it's only happened during shows, I haven't had time to wait for a crash dialogue, and only have windows events to go by.

To the best of what I can gather it seems to have coincided with microsoft store updater, since that's the only error that occurred during the timeframe of the crash. I'll attach a screenshot of the eventviewer file that I exported to examine at home!

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

What windows version (winver) are you on?
If you remove BMD from the equation (new comp with just DXV clips) does the problem still occur?

Hi Josh,
I read your post with interest as I am getting random crashes too - I find it rare that I do a gig without a crash these days, unfortunately.
I use two laptops with windows 11 and find that the update does mess things up somewhat.
I notice or assume that you are using a capture card as you mentioned Blackmagic in your post. Do you still get crashes when not using capture?
I do think that this is a Windows issue and wonder if anyone else is having these problems, or if anyone has similar problems using a Mac.

I've been rocking Windows 11 for almost a year now and have done at least 20 festivals this summer, not a single crash. I'm interested to know why you are getting so many crashes. Have you been submitting crash logs when they happen?

Hi there,
Yes, I have been submitting the crash logs when I can.
Have you been using Resolume with a capture device?
I have been using an intensity shuttle as well as a USB HDMI capture.
The last crash, however, was when I was trying to refresh an APC mini (midi controller), which is a first.
All my clips are DXV.
Both laptops have enough RAM and decent Graphic cards, so hardware is all good.
One thing I have noticed is that it takes a while to save and that Resolume becomes un- responsive while this happens.
Any thoughts welcome!

Cheers,

Paddy

Your last crash report is about decklink capture, refreshing the USB bus might have dropped the Shuttle unexpectedly, and that causing a crash.
