ALLEY : PNG image encoding in DXV3 make 2 frames ?

Post by P-lab »

Hello Bonjour,
I have a question about fix image PNG encoding to DXV format.
I work on 2 PC, one using an old version of Alley ,... Alley 2.1.0 (with Dxv 3.0.1 codec) and a second with the last Alley version 7.15
I discovered that the old version made smalller file, half the size of the last version :
original PNG (3110x4147 pixels ) : 25 Mo
Alley 7.15 MOV ... 11 Mo
Alley 2.10 Mov ... 5 Mo

When importing in Resolume, the smaller one is played as a still image.
The bigger one, encoded with Alley 7.15, is played as a video, with a timeline flickering rapidly.

This is strange, isn't it ?
Same behavior with or without alpha channel in the original PNG.
Tested with Alley 7.13.2 too,... the same.

I need to encode a batch of PNG files, and would prefer ..... smaller files, of course.
Any idea ?
thanks a lot.

Pascal

NB.
Here a the 3 files, for test

I just tested your PNG on my system running 7.15.
It showed up as "PNG Image Sequence ()" In Alley, but still only rendered out at a single (1) frame.
PNG Filesize: 25MB
DXV3 Single Frame File Size: 5.5MB
So it's actually rendering out at a smaller file size than the original PNG.

Be sure to check your preset that you're rendering "Without" Alpha (If your file doesn't require it). As that can add a larger file size, as well as checking your quality to "Normal" if you aren't using >8bit color in Arena (for gradients and such), as that too will increase the filesize.

Everything looks normal to me on my system. You might check your encode settings and possibly re-install.

Arvol,
thanks a lot for your help.

I double checked the settings in ALLEY last version, and the DXV output file is 11Mo, with setting : NORMAL encoding WITH alpha channel.
It should be, 5 Mo, yes, like your test !!!
And if you test this file in resolume (autochrome- Alley_7_13_2.mov) , you will see a video timeline looping.

Very strange,...

Finally,
I re installed the DXV codec and ALLEY last version, and the export DXV file is now ok,... 5 Mo and not 10 :-)
This problem is ok.

Thanks for your help, Arvol !
