Likely transitioning from PPT to Resolume - need some clarification

Post by helixdnb2 »

Hey friends,

Looking into transitioning our stageshow presentations from PPT to Resolume and looking for some insight about how we might accomplish some of the following:

Populating text block with external text source. Is there any way to have a text block/animated text populated by an external text source - either text file or excel/csv file? I've seen (and grabbed) the CSV to OSC plugin via touchdesigner, but haven't messed around with it yet, but also looking for additional options for populating text blocks for things akin to say a lower third text without necessarily relying on a web-sockets/osc type setup if I don't have to (I'd prefer not needing to have another possible point of failure when doing the live event if I can afford not to).

With some of our stage show events we have content broken up into say 2/3/4/5 columns on the main screen, sometimes divided into vertical halves/thirds. From the limited time I've had with resolume, my assumption would be to set up a ton of slices as layout templates which offset/size things accordingly. Am I correct in this assumption, or are there effects/plugins/ways of doing the equivalent of "Master Layouts" in ppt? I'm mainly trying to figure out how to set up multiple "content grids" if you will, in as easy a way as possible.

A follow-up to this: is there the concept of a parent/child relationship where you can have a container/screen with child content laid out within the "container" that has a position offset using relative coordinates rather than absolute x,y co-ordinates? Further - say your canvas is 2920x1080 with a 1920x1080 primary screen and 2 500x1080 stage columns. Say you have the whole stageshow set up where your primary screen is the left-most 1920x1080, the next 500x1080 to the right of that is stage column 1 and the next 500x1080 is stage column 2. If it comes day-of and you realize that you instead needed to have it laid out as Col1 (500x1080) | Primary Screen (1920x1080) | Col 2 (500x1080), would the solve for that be to re-arrange the slices on the advanced output?

If we have an area on screen where I wanted to swap text/what image was displayed in just that section, I take it I would have the content to swap existing within the same row as what's there, correct? If say it was a stage show where we were talking about two completely separate products (where the equivalent may be a "section" within ppt), would the recommendation likely be to have one deck per product and swap decks, which could theoretically help keep things organized/less needing to span way way out horizontally? Or are there other, better ways that you might recommend?

Backgrounds playing across columns: what would the easiest method of having one background continue to play across multiple columns? Would you need to just duplicate the same video file across every cell in a row, or are you able to have the background in row 4 col 3 play when columns 4-10 are playing? Ie is there sub-columns/rows (and sub-sub-columns/rows, and so on) so that content in multiple rows from one column plays while other content continues to play/stops?

For 5 columns, you'd need 5 slices.
You can also use more if you need more fine positioning.

Clips are placed into layers, which can be in groups.
All these have their own transform controls.
