midi help

I have just aquired a Roland PC-200 Mk II midi keyboard and have been trying to get it talkng to resolume. I am new to midi and have come into problems i dont know how to fix. i can only assign one controller to do anything, the keys dont seem to register - the midi goes through a midisport 2x2 and this registers as active in the pref window and one controller does is active but thats it.I have figured out the midi channel assignment but using notes has alluded me. i hope it is something really obvious i have overlooked, but any advice would be grateful.

Does the light on the midisport2x2 blink when you press keys?

the lights blinks away constantly, doesnt seem to be a direct link to key pushing
