Resolume use of data (framerate issue)

Post by nfms »

Hey there,

we are in the final stages of our demo/showreel but we're facing one problem, the framerate.

We use own made footage, rendered with cinepack or mideo VJ codec at 640-480, process resolution + output also (windowed).

As soon as I start resolume, the use of my chipset is 90-100%,
even without loading a deck, or playing a movie. When playing a movie it's ok-ish, but when using 2 layers + an effect (especially blurs) the framerate noticably drops, and that's something we REALLY don't need :)

I turned of explorer and other useless processes, it's a clean partition only running Ableton live and resolume 2.3.

Is there a way to reduce the processor load, and why is resolume using so much load, even without movies loaded up..

laptop specs: p4 2.8
512 ram
ati radeon 9600
external USB 2.0 HD

edit: I also thought about turing of the audio input, that might lighten it a bit, but how ?

Edwin ... Bart ... anyone ?? :)

maby you have to convert your footage to a smaller resolution... 400x300 to test it? and you can also try indeo video codec for the footage...
is your hd fast enough?
resolume works more like a videogame as it always uses 100% processor power
edit: (i can do 3 layers of 400x300 indeo footage with effects and global effects on a pentium M 1,4 with 512 ram)

Resolume reserves as much of the cpu as it can whether it actually uses it or not as far as I know.

How fast is your drive in RPM?

USB2 doesn't have as reliable a transfer rate as Firewire I don't think either even though 'technically' faster.

I'd recommend upping the RAM anyway too, can't have too much.
