Output flickering
Re: Output flickering
Hi everyone, I fixed an issue on three of my computers by reinstalling the NVIDIA driver. During the installation, I chose to ignore the optimization step, and it seems to have resolved the problem. I'm not sure if this is the correct way to do it, but I only experienced one crash in a very long time of working like this. Resolume guys, you need to fix this, please!
Re: Output flickering
Just saw and read through this, and I have a hunch that some of the issues reported here may be caused by different things. Intermittent flicker is one of the worst issues to have, so hopefully it can be sorted.
First off is the driver things. Rather than looking at the driver that works (516.94) we can look at the one after (517.48) to see what has changed. The thing that sticks out is fixes and/or improvements to flickering in multi monitor systems(!). It is mentioned a few places, but the main takeaway is that if you have a multi-monitor setup with different refresh rates for the displays, things might flicker. Try setting the refresh rate to the same for all outputs to see if it helps. Also turn off any V/G-sync if that is enabled. I you already have the same refresh rate - try seeing if changing it to mismatch will help (https://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/ ... -notes.pdf).
If that doesn't work, there is the slightly more exotic issue of cables. Flickering in white images/slides is usually a sign of bandwidth issues. Check cables, check cable specs, and then check different manufacturers, and when that is done, check different lengths. Cables "within spec" may have signal reflections at certain resolutions depending on the cable length. A longer cable may work better than a short one and vice versa when having unconventional resolutions - and those are never tested manufacturer side. Also use the ports on the opposite side of your power input if on a mac because Apple. Cables sure are fun! (no.)
Then there are carpets and static. Make sure cables are properly shielded and grounded between extenders and racks. Also that the house system installers actually used shielded plugs instead of just shielded cable when they did the install.

Re: Output flickering
Thx Magneson... I had something similar for a view months and it turned out to be the hdmi cable to the processor that crossed some other cables and it glitched because of it...

Re: Output flickering
Yeah, cables and adapters can be fragile in many ways, and interference can show up where you wouldn't expect it! I actually forgot one main category in the checklist which are adapters and power source.
At the start of one tour I struggled with intermittent flickering with some dual channel DVI->Fiber->DVI kits. In some venues it would flicker, in others it would not, with no apparent reason. I changed a lot of cables! One day I zoned out and forgot to plug in power to the sending unit placed at FOH - and didn't notice until the show was over. As it had worked fine, I stopped plugging it in and didn't have any issues for the remaining shows. Turned out it probably was some electric potential or phase mismatch between sender and receiver when they were powered from different AC sources, as it in hidsight mostly happened when there already were power strips/PDU's in the front truss, and not when we pulled power from FOH.

Re: Output flickering
Ivanky HDMI cables are a solid choice.
Re: Output flickering
I'm sorry but it's only happened on resolume arena, the cable is not the issue here.
Re: Output flickering
Like I said, once you delete the optimization for NVIDIA the problem is not happening again
Re: Output flickering
I'm seeing this problem too with the latest release. I get a flash of checkered pattern along the bottom and lower right quadrant of the output display(s), sometime most of the right hand side.
Here's my setup:
Resolume Avenue 7.21.3 38686
Nvidia GeForce RTX3060
12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700 2.10 GHz
16.0 GB RAM
2 x 1TB NVME Disks
Nvidia Driver 32.0.15.5599, 01/06/2024
I have a work around that seems to work at present but who knows if it will continue. If I connect my working displays, 2 of them, to the on-board outputs, and my projectors to the RTX I don't get the problem. If I connect everything up to the RTX then the flashing occurs.
I haven't noticed this problem prior to recent releases, most of my work tends to be in the summer so I've not used Resolume for 6 months before June this year, and probably didn't update it post summer 2023.
I'd really like to see a fix to this, if it starts creeping into my live shows it's going to really spoil it.
FYI I've checked refresh rates and everything is at 60Hz.

Re: Output flickering
Very frustrating as I just bought another license and now I've getting flickering output again. This issue needs to be fixed, its been going on for years now.

Re: Output flickering
Have you found the source of the problem? Because it seems to be only a localized few having issues and I'm curious what all of those environments or systems/setups have in common?
