FFT with Resolume 4 & Traktor Pro

Post by digitalvinyl »

Hey guys, I'm just getting into the world of VJ'ing and I'm trying to setup my Traktor workflow with Resolume. I've got the midi clock sending BPM info from Traktor to Resolume now (awesome) and it's on to getting FFT to work.

I have Resolume 4, Traktor Pro 2, and and working through OSX.

For External Audio FFT Input options I have the following:

Built-In Microphone - Input 1 & 2 (this actually works picking up sounds through the mic, though not how I want of course, and the spectrum shows up in the FFT parameter assignment)

Built-In Input - Input 1 & 2 (this does nothing it seems)

Traktor Kontrol - Input 1 & 2 (does nothing)
- Input 3 & 4 (this oddly makes that little inverted triangle on the FFT parameter assignment screen move ever so slightly)

I have the Audio FFT Input Gain set to 24.0 dB and I have the gain dial on the parameter assignment set to maximum as well.

If anyone could help me out it would be great as I could get the transparency to fade in and out based on the beat which would be fantastic!!

Thanks guys!

The keyword in External Audio FFT is 'external'.

All the options listed there are inputs your computer can use to listen to an external source of sound. Either your voice via the microphone, or a CD playing via the line-out of your stereo. Your Traktor Kontrol apparently also can be used as an input.

But music playing on your computer is internal, and it cannot be detected by external audio fft.

One workaround on OSX is to use Soundflower. You can route the audio coming out of Traktor to Soundflower, which can then be used as an external input in Resolume.

Hope that helps!
