Organizing VjClips / libary

Post by He2neg »

Hey,
i´m quite new in the buissness and now i come to a point were maybe one of you can give me some hints.

I started to collect free / open source / creativ comment Vj clips and now have to face the problem of storage / organizing them.
If you want i can post all the links to places were i found the best / most (all in good quality)

I started with folders like ( collerfull / dancers & humans / backgounds ...) But now there is to much in each folder and as well there are many clips fit in more then one folder. :o

I thought about sort them like ( circles / squares/ ... ) but also think this isnt the best way. :(

Maybe you found the perfect way to organize or just share your way of handle all the clips u got.

Hints / methods ?!

Edit:
Other point is the missing prewiew (picture) of clips with DXV in windows. Open Quicktime all time takes to long.

Thank you all

Probably the most versatile way is to use decks for this.

I usually store similar themed content in its own folder. The folder theme is usually arbitrary and it's just to remind me where the footage is, more than a definitive description.

Then using decks, I'll group together content that works well together. Sometimes this is just a few clips from a single folder. If I figure out over time that some footage works particularly well with something else, I'll just create a new deck that has the combined clips in it.

The beauty of this, is that you can use whatever combination method you prefer, and even use different categorizations simultaneously, without having to move the footage on your HD. So the same clip can be part of a deck 'red', because it's red, and also of 'tunnels' because it's a tunnel.

You can then drop these decks in to a set whenever you want:
