Problems with Arena 4.1.7 on Windows 8

Post by renanmarc »

Hi guys,

I am facing huge problems while I try to open and execute SMPTE content on Windows 8.
First, when I open the resolume it takes a fair time to set all the things up, about 2 or 3 minutes.
Second, after the program running the smpte all ok, I cant even click to preview a video, when I do, the program stops responding for a little while, 3 to 4 minutes and I have to wait.
Third, when I play a certain video which is attached to a smpte, the program also stops working for a while and I can't do nothing. I tried updating the Arena for 4.1.8 and using an older version the arena 4.1.6 and unfortunately nothing has changed.
Note that I have tested the same program in 5 different machines, I use 2 MBP 2012, 1 MBP 2011 with a dedicated graphic card and 2 Windows 7 with a GTX770, Intel Core i7 2600k and 16GB RAM and everything went well, I just got this problem on a Windows 8 machine.

The PC I am using for this is a gamer laptop, an ASUS ROG G750JW, with 16 GB ram, GTX 770M and 4th gen core i7 4700 HQ.

Thanks for the attention,
Renan

welcome to the world of Windows 8 incompatibility :)

Anyway Ive just tried running SMTPE on G750JH on one video and faced no problem. But it for sure depends on the particular composition and settings. Are you on Windows 8 or 8.1 ?

I didn't know Windows 8 had such incompatibility problem :?
I can run all other videos and suddenly and randomly stops for several minutes.

I am using Windows 8 which came with the Laptop. Do you recommend me installing Windows 7 Ultimate?

The long startup time suggests this is more of an issue with very large decks or a large number of comps.

How many compositions do you have in your comp folder, and how many clips do you have in your first deck?

I have only this comp in my comp folder and the first deck has 68 layers with 1 video in each layer. Also, this problem only occured on the Windows 8, because I have used the same comp in different computers and everything went pretty well.

Hmmm. 68 layers is quite a lot. Do you get the same problems if you do a test with just the basic 3 layers?

Is there another way to play SMPTE content automatically without using to many layers? Because I am using for a huge gig and the artist likes to mix musics, so I have programmed 40 videos, for 40 songs, so, to do this I had to create one layer per each video, put them all in column 1 and then activate this column.

I did tried with only 3 layers and the same problem, the program does not runs smoothly as in my MBP(which is a lot simpler than this one). In my MBP runs all the 68 layers well smooth as for my desktop though.

Well, if the problem persists with 3 layers as well, something else is going wrong.

Could you contact us at mail@resolume.com with clear steps on how to reproduce your issue?
