Hi guys,
I have a few clips I want to play in continues playback, but now I'm looking for a way to reset them all to the beginning of the clip where they need to be at the beginning of the show. I figure this must be quite simple, but I can't find it…
If this option isn't available, is the best way to have the clips set to normal playback and switch to continues after the first time I trigger them? (not really to my liking…)
Thanks!
Resetting continues playback
Re: Resetting continues playback
Not sure I understand what you need. Are you clips set to play next clip in auto pilot?

Re: Resetting continues playback
I guess it is because I'm working on the composition and saving it when the playhead isn't at the beginning of the clip. The clips are in loop setting, but I'm wondering if there is a way to set the clips back to the start.
Don't know if this is any clearer, sorry. I'll explain a bit more.
I have this layer with a few different clips of a hand reaching to different doors. I want to switch between these clips in continues playback, so you can see the hand reaching further forward every time the clip is shown. The clips play in loop, so start over every time. I want these setting to be done upfront, but when I work on the setting the clips already start playing (also in preview) and when I save the composition the playhead is not at the start of the clip.
So is there an easy way to "reset" to the starting point?
Every way I think of has an extra action (but I'm new to this software, so I might just overlook something very easy…)
- I could set a cue point at the start of the clip, but than I'd have to load the clips in preview first, hit Q, put it to output. I don't really have the time to do this for all the clips.
- I could set the clips to normal playback, save composition, and switch to continues after the first time I trigged the clip (this seems a better option and it isn't took bad if I forget to do it once)
Hope this is more clear?
Thanks!

Do you have embedded audio in your clips?
If you do than I think you have the same problem like me:

Re: Resetting continues playback
Thanks for the reply! The clips don't have audio, so I think this is different. I know why the clips are starting further along, because the continues playback option is on. But I'm looking for a way to easily 'reset' it to the beginning of the clip.
Re: Resetting continues playback
so, you want the clips to play looped until stopped, but on every clip restart you want to start them from the beginning?
I think you are looking for the last option in the manual about transport:
https://resolume.com/manual/en/r4/clips#transport

"These buttons are only available in Timeline transport mode. Use them to decide what happens when a clip is triggered. The first (default) option plays the clip from the start. The second option starts the clip from wherever it was when it was last played."

Re: Resetting continues playback
Hmmm not exactly, I want to clips to restart from the beginning the FIRST time I trigger them, but after that I want them to continue where they left. Just use continues playback you'd say, BUT because I've adjusted the settings (and the clips have started playing) the playhead isn't at the beginning of the clip when I save the composition.
I don't know how to explain this better. Sorry guys.
I think I'll just opt to save the clips in normal play mode and switch to continues after the first time trigging them.
Thanks for thinking along

Re: Resetting continues playback
I see,
you could map a keyboard key to switch this option before you save the composition
for example map the same two keys in composition key mapping (or application key mapping Deck focus) to every clips buttons.

Good one! Thanks!
Re: Resetting continues playback
Another approach would be to use layer routers.
Let's say you have 3 hand/door animations, here is how you would set it up:
Once your comp is rolling, you can then switch between layer routers to reveal the animations that will be rolling in uninterrupted loops.
I don't know how your comp works but you could also trigger all animations at once (which would reset the playheads to the beginning) and just switch between layer routers. If you wanted to pause your animations when they are not rolling you could use the transport controls of layers 1 through 3 to play and pause your animations.
To make life easier, you could also program the key mapping to run your comp as such:
I realize it's a little complicated to set up so let me know if anything is not clear. Also, let me know if this approach works for you
Let's say you have 3 hand/door animations, here is how you would set it up:
- L1C1: animation 1 set to ignore column trigger and play from beginning in loop
L2C1: animation 2 set to ignore column trigger and play from beginning in loop
L3C1: animation 3 set to ignore column trigger and play from beginning in loop
L4: Black out layer - I use [Solid Color] with Brightness at 0 and set the layer opacity at 1 and repeat the clip for every column I use
L5C1: Layer Router set to L1 (LR1)
L5C2: Layer Router set to L2 (LR2)
L5C3: Layer Router set to L3 (LR3)
Once your comp is rolling, you can then switch between layer routers to reveal the animations that will be rolling in uninterrupted loops.

To make life easier, you could also program the key mapping to run your comp as such:
- Cmd+1 triggers animation 1
Cmd+2 triggers animation 2
Cmd+3 triggers animation 3
1 plays LR1 and animation 1 and pauses animation 2 & 3
2 plays LR2 and animation 2 and pauses animations 1 & 3
3 plays LR3 and animation 3 and pauses animations 2 & 3
I realize it's a little complicated to set up so let me know if anything is not clear. Also, let me know if this approach works for you
