Connecting 8 720p projectors + Led Panel + Master Display

Hello forum, i'm using Resolume Avenue for quite a while on a simple projector scheme that outputs 8 projectors that duplicates the image using a VGA splitter @ 1280x720px. Now i want to take it to the next level and output individual loops on each of the 8 projectors or 4 extended to 1 display and the other 4 to a second one and also if possible output a 9th loop on a Pixel Mesh 256 led display @ 128x64 px.

Below is listed a scheme i made browsing this forum but i want your opinion on this because i'm not sure this will properly work.



Using Display port output i will connect a 3D Club 1-4 MST, from the HDMI output, using HDMI to DP converter, i will connect the second 3D Club 1-4 MST. From these two 3D Club devices using Display port to VGA converter i want to connect the 8 projectors. Why use DP to VGA converters? Because the scheme is already in place and replacing cables will be a pain and a higher cost also.

Using 1 DVI output i will connect the LED Display capture card using a DVI - DVI cable that outputs via RJ-45 directly to the panel and the second DVI will connect the master display where all the work will be done.

As a PC i want to use i7 4th gen, one of the 2 graphic cards listed in the scheme (gtx 760 or R9 270 - which one do you guys think is best suited for my project) 16 gb DDR3 and one 240 GB SSD. I'm not sure what motherboard to choose and here i need your opinion.

So what do you guys think, will it work for my project? Best regards, Marius.

It is a good plan. However there is a flaw in this plan. The GTX 760 supports a maximum number of 4 connected displays. The R9 270 supports a maximum of 6. Displays connected to a MST Hub count towards the total number of displays that the card can output to.

Using 2 R9 270s would give you the required number of outputs.

Also you have to think about :

DP / DVI / HDMI are digital Signals, if you adapt to VGA ( Analog ) then you might dont see anything.

I dont think it will work this way becouse of this D/A problem. But try / error is possible

My guess:
You´ll need Digital -> Analog converter ( 8 of them).
And here i think it would be cheaper to change the Cables, but think here about the max length of them. Vga / Rgbhv ~70m / HDMI or DP ~ 20m ( longer runs need special light based cabels)

@ t13swift - if i use the 3d club 1-4 mst to extend 4 of the projectors and then use the mapping function in Resolume to set 4 layers will do the trick or i have to use 2 graphic cards ?

@ He2neg - projectors don't support DP only DVI, HDMI and VGA. As i previously said all cables are in place and to change them i would have to buy about 200 meters, and if u make a simple maths the price will be HUGE. Also i tested a HDMI source, also a DP source with an active converter and all works fine.

I'm still confused regarding the 3d club 1-4 mst and the way graphic card manages it.

You tested the Converter behind the Club3d hub right ? impressive that it worked...would have bet against it. but god to know...

The active conversion is for the outputs downstream of the Club 3D MST hub, right?

The part that puzzle me is that the Club device works with an HDMI signal since MST is a DisplayPort 1.2 specific attribute. Here is the table from their website that shows MST is only available with DP1.2:

Sorry Im not sure what you mean. The R9 270 can support a maximum of 6 displays, it doesnt matter how theyre plugged in (mst hub or not). To get more displays you either need an external processor or another graphics card.

Ok so now i know a sure thing. I need 2 ATI graphic cards for my project.

What about the motherboard now, i was a little worried about a singhe PCI-EX now it must have 2, any suggestion on that? A powerfull yen not so expensive if you please.
