syphon / spout insert effect

Post by Zoltán »

I was thinking, would it be possible to create a syphon / spout insert (send - return) ?

This would be a video effect that could be dropped to a clip or Layer Router,
which would send the texture out of resolume to do some processing on it,
and get back the processed video frames in the same clip.

Have not had time to think about this until now, but it would be possible with a Spout Freeframe plugin.

It's tricky because usually a sender can't receive from itself. Also it is stretching the principles of effect or source for Resolume, so the plugin would have to be an effect and would only work if there was in incoming texture.

That texture could be sent to other applications just as the old Spout sender plugin did. But the plugin would not have to draw the source texture. Instead any other sender could be selected to display it's output.

So you could indeed send out what the plugin received to another app and receive the processed result back to display it as long as that app sent it back with a different sender name.

The application you sent it to would need the ability to send independently of what it received which is usually the case.
