Resolume Arena 5 & Artnet

Post by pmdjh »

I have been reading through other posts and it seems I am not the only one having issues.

GrandMA2 outputting Artnet.
Macbook Pro running Resolume Arena

Artnet monitor on the Macbook shows the frames coming into the computer so I know for a fact that I am receiving Artnet AND that it is coming in on the right universe, subnet etc.

No response whatsoever from Arena.

Anyone have any tips other than using a DMX input device?

Strikes me that if it is an issue with Resolume it should be resolved and patched if they are going to advertise that it can be controlled via artnet.

If it is just me and I am doing something wrong -- I seem to be in good company.

I use Artnet over WIFI regularly and it works as expected so can you describe what you want to control and how you're going about it.

For instance, what channels are you using and did you map your DMX channels or are you using the automap feature?

Have you configured your DMX input in Resolume>Preferences>DMX?

And just in case, here is the chapter in the manual on DMX: https://resolume.com/manual/en/r5/controlling#dmx

I am using the DMX Automap . I have the DMX Input configured to the correct universe in preferences. I have the master and 8 layers patched on the console. I have read the chapter on DMX.

It's bizarre because as I said in the original post I can watch the values changing in the artnet monitor on the machine and yet Arena acts like there is no input.

And....when I download 4.2.2 and fire it up it worked as soon as I turned on the DMX input.

On my end, I have issues controlling Resolume if I Broadcast but I have no issues at all if I Unicast and specify the IP address for the computer hosting Resolume. They still both work but I get choppy DMX flow when I Broadcast and try to fade values.

This Broadcast vs Unicast is not an issue withe R4 but I believe there's been several threads on the topic for R5 already.

So the console is outputting using broadcast mode.

So it just gets weirder. I closed 4.2.2 and re-opened 5. Then I turned off the DMX Input and turned it back on. And voila it started to work.

I am starting to wonder if there is an order of operations issue. I will keep testing to see if I can get the behavior more consistent.
