Thunderbolt/USB-C Question

Post by Chad0034 »

Hey guys,

Sorry if this is elsewhere on the forum. Ive been searching around for the last half hour.

So I have a newly purchased PC. Ive always been a MAC guy, but using this software on an upcoming project that requires more power.

My computer: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0197 ... UTF8&psc=1

You can see that my computer has a USB-C port, as well as mini display and HDMI. I am trying to use a Black Magic Mini Recorder Capture Card. Im taking an HDSDI, and the capture card requires a thunderbolt cable to be connected to the computer.

My question is, is it possible to receive a thunderbolt connection on my computer? I realize the mini-display port will not work for Thunderbolt, even though they are the same connection. Would this adapter below work?

Thunderbolt 3 is backward compatible with TB and TB2 so yes the adapter you're considering should work as well as the capture card.

Thanks man! I should receive that adapter tomorrow. I had already purchased this adapter, but its a mini display port to USB-C, not thunderbolt.

I just connected the new adapter and it is still not catching. The capture device doesn't have the light on so it looks like it is not catching the device.

Any ideas from anyone?

Curious to see if you can get this mini recorder working on a Windows Laptop.

I guess this would work with a PC?

Have you installed the most recent drivers from Blackmagic?

You can also update thunderbolt firmware, if update available.

Yes I had installed them. Talked to Black Magic on the phone. Looks like there is no way to send the Mini Recorder through unless you have a natively installed Thunderbolt drive on your computer. So I had to order the other USB 3.0 SDI capture card.
