DJ to VJ work flow?

Post by Digitrevx »

I'm really interested in hearing how you guys manage set-less DJ's with gigantic libraries of tracks.

I'm wondering how a DJ can walk in with 150-300 or more tracks and a VJ or VJ team can still manage highly themed visuals and deal with the fact smpte visuals are designed for very specific tracks. Is the answer to simply have 150 or more unique visuals planned in which most wont be used? Wouldn't the budget for creating a show be astronomical?

I understand the concept of mixing visuals on the fly but I'm talking about highly themed content that is more then basic visualization.

Or is the answer to ask the DJ's to narrow down their choices or blend some solutions?

in ear monitor systems and talkback mics or ichat for touring pros that can advance these sort of bits

or... old fashioned, knowing your artist and his/her sets
