Mapping Sequence question

Post by cabaalcabaal »

Hey there,

Currently working on a video installation. I've used Resolume for effects and processing, but this marks my first time mapping. I'm hanging banners (image attached) which have a series of horizontal black and white blocks. I'm hoping to highlight each horizontal line with a bar of light, and then have that bar flash and move down or up to another horizontal bar. I've been able to map off the whole banner, but not sure what tools best to use to accomplish this.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Ben

Input maps, yo!

If you know you're going to be working with an object that has 11 lines, you create an input map where your comp is divided into 11 equally high areas. Here I've made every bar 1920 pixels and 90 pixels high, to fit nicely into a 1920x1080 composition.

Instead of taking the whole layer as input for your slice, you take just the part of the comp covered by the line.

You can then take this input map into After Effects or whatever, and make as many animations as you want. Since your mapping is done based on the input of the comp, it doesn't matter how many animations you make, they all fit to your mapping.

If you want to take it a step further, since you know you're going to projecting on 24 blocks per line, you can create an input map for this as well. Then you can create animations where you're flashing each block, or doing outlines, or wobbles, or fills, or strokes or whatever you think of.
