Best config for 3 2k outputs and 4k comp

Post by elgarf »

Hi.

Which config is the best to handle 3 datapaths x4 (2048x1536) with 4k comp size and 3-4 layers? We tried gtx 1060 6gb + core i5 + ssd, win 10; but there still was lags (good fps, but video on screen playing not smooth). Should we use better graphics/better processor/faster ssd?

Better GPU and SSD

Look for a 1080 and m.2 drive

For start, I think, we just can make RAID0 instead of m.2.

Well if your using sata 3 the best you can hope for is around 500mb a second. And that isn't going to cut it with 3 layers of 4K.

But give it a multi drive raid 0 a shot, luckily SSD drives are pretty cheap. If you hit up a 3 or 4 drive 256GB raid 0 your at least the same speed as a single m.2

I think an m.2 drive (they're become cheaper and can be installed on PCIe lane if you don't have it on your motherboard) is the way to go when it comes to speed but I think that the i5 processor could also be the culprit.

Also I know that Resolume is 32-bit but make sure you have enough RAM installed so that there is enough to run all your background processes (which you should limit as much as possible) and any other program that you're running concurrently.

As a side note, take a look at this page re. SSD and SATA speed but here is the key information:
Example: SanDisk Extreme SSD, which supports SATA 6Gb/s interface and when connected to SATA 6Gb/s port, can reach up to 550/520MB/s sequential read and sequential write speed rates respectively. However, when the drive is connected to SATA 3 Gb/s port, it can reach up to 285/275MB/s sequential read and sequential write speed rates respectively.

We have 16gb ram, so it's enough for resolume and other software I think. Resolume takes about 5%-10% of CPU. Maybe we also can look at AMD videocards?

Which opengl drivers are better: NVidia or AMD?
If Resolume would use DirectX, I think it will work better on windows)

Looks like, disk speed is real bottleneck in any config...
Firstly it was win 10 on hdd, footages on ssd and when windows reads from hdd, resolume drops frames.
When I moved windows to ssd performance becomed better, but I still have droped frames.

I have same performance on msi gs60 with gtx 970m, so looks like I need better ssd... Someday I'll try NVMe SSD)

That's strange, because windows takes not so many hdd/ssd speed.
