Avenue 5.1.3 Black background not working when using Multi task

Post by suzybee »

Hi,
This is an obscure one i know,
but I use my clips on one layer without an active alpha channel and usually use the Darken blend mode.
I've been using the multi task mode for the opacity of some of my effects. In Avenue 5.1.2 even when the effect opacity is at 0.50 the black background covers the whole of the background area on the output.
But for some reason, when i'm using Avenue 5.1.3 and i turn up the opacity of the effect, i get two boxes floating in the middle of the screen, with a transparent area around them.
That's usually the case for "side by side" but "multitask" usually maintains a black background.
Even with effects where you can tick "Black BG" it's not maintaining the black background when i'm using Multitask in Avenue 5.1.3.
I hope this makes sense,
Is it possible to bring back the black background for the Multitask blend mode?
Thanks!
Suzybee :)

Thanks for reporting this.

I'm afraid that the transparent background is the correct behaviour. Filling it with black was a bug. Apparently it was a nice bug, so much that you got used to it. Still, it wasn't how things are supposed to work.

The only way that we could satisfy everyone, is to have parameters for blend modes. This way you could toggle the black background on and off, like you can with some effects. Parameters for blend modes is something we've already been thinking about for a long time.

Hi Joris,

Thanks for your helpful reply,
It's useful to know the reason for the change.

If you do add parameters to blend modes that would be an interesting development!

For now, i'll just use a different blend mode..

Cheers!
Suzy :)
