Noob Datapath FX4 4K MacBook Question

Post by SiNiSon »

So having a devil of the time getting this rig to play nice..

Have a MacBook Pro (2016) and trying to feed my Datapath FX4 4K (3840x2160) and out to 4 x 1920x1080 LCD in a 2x2 config.. the output side is fine but I cant for the life of me get the FX4 to show as allowing 4k input.. I can feed a 4k screen direct its fine.. is it an EDID issue? I have switchres but before I go crazy with that I am not sure as the setting for the custom resolution I would make with it and dont want to blow anything up :)

Any tips would be great..

Thanks!!
Scott.

What kind of cable and/or adapter are you using?

I have tried the apple USB-C to HDMI and MonoPrice USB-C to DisplayPort Adapter both spec'd for the res and sense and display the res connected to a 4K monitor.

You need to set the edid in the wall manager. Also it needs to be updated and flashed to properly support macs with DisplayPort. I'm not use if USB C is involved in the last part.

In walldesigner create new input in "inputs" section and set resolution and framerate you need.
I do not have any resolution issue with MBP2016 and FX4. I can get 30fps 4k with apple type-c digital multiport adapter and hdmi cable and 60fps 4k with type-c to display port cable.

Troubles you can get with MBP and FX4 are
1. HDCP (red screen output) - just disable HDCP in FX4.
2. Colors. After some update MacOs started to load wrong color profile for FX4 and you get gray instead of black and even with green hue in some cases.

I have experienced this issue before! Have you found a solution for this? Could I just cycle through the color profiles in the macOS Display Preferences?

No, changing color profile does not help.
I do not know a solution yet. Just use DP instead of HDMI now.

This is related to "full range 0-255 vs limited 16-235". There is a solution somewhere in internet, it just requires to change some deep settings, affecting integrity of MacOs.

Hope for apples patch - this is a really bad behaviour from MacOs.
