mac or pc

Post by jarred »

Right this question always come's up and i know a lot of the answers that i will get.
I am already a dj and promotor and have worked with many packages on the standard pc. The question of mac vs pc is one i have heard a lot of in the past. I am currently trying to decide what my complete set up will include and want to know how much experience people have had with the mac powerbooks and the g5 towers with video and vj software. Stability, the only main "claimed" benefit from mac is a nice idea but just wanted to ask you guys.. whats generally the best set up.. money vs flashyness vs functionality vs cost ???????
ha ha sorry just wanted to hear a general opinion from people in the business..;)

I run both pc and mac for vjing and I think the main dif is mac powerbooks look sexy but pc's are a bit cheaper for what you get.

the other reson i work more on pc is there are far more free programs to use (e.g. virtual dub, avisynth, etc) and more alternit options for software.

I think it comes down to more of a style decision ;)

first of all, macs are pc too :P as pc means personal computer, so mac are :D lol

i always prefer, due to its nature, intel / amd based systems.

I dont like to be dependent and when I am using mac, I feel I am dependent to apple.
But on intel/amd based systems, there are hundreds of zillions of vendors where you can find and buy

also about the software titles, in intel/amd based systems, there are hundreds of alternatives whereas you can find a suitable one.

where pc/amd based systems sucks are: Microsoft Based Operation Systems
you have to tweak the system heavily.

but, to be honest, macs look wonderfull, like an art piece :)
and they have an advantage of unix based os.

there were a company called lieberman inc.,
when they relaunch their site,
check out for their laptops. they are state-of-art computers :)

Shuttles are GREAT systems... reliable, small, quiet, powerful. I built my first one 3 years ago, never had a problem with it and traveled all the time.

last year I had http://www.myaopen.com build one for me on very short notice... pretty decent price and 1 weeks standard turnaround for a custom system.

My actual resolume rig is a:
http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant ... Code=80400

It is louder but has more space for everything I wanted without going up to a midsized pc.

for what it's worth
there has been a bit of controversy over Liebermann Inc.:

man, chill out :) nobodys attacking to each others with flame-throwers :)

at least me is not a intel / amd based coomputer fan neither mac fan...
I always used the machine which I need to :)

ever worked with sgi hardwares :) try discreet logics flame or inferno running on a size of a deepfreeze :)

linux, hell yeah... I have a personal computer running slackware linux from last 10 years :) but, it is still an alternative... not the mainstream... what a shame... only god knows how I hate whenever I have a problem with the microsoft based softwares and also god knows how I hate the prices I pay to apple computer or components :) ah another reason, motorola mc68xxx based cpus...

peace bro :)

ps: digital:snot thanks for the liebermann link bro :) you can be my saver man :)

MTB... your my favorite "ex-russian cosmonot"
: )
My workstation is a dual-amd 248 system from http://www.boxxtech.com
2gig ddr
750gig sata drives
matrox parhelia 128
it fits in SKB case so it is perfect for transport.

Had it for a year now and LOVE it... a bit chunky in price, but customer service is prime. (ram went bad 6 months ago... called them up, they NEXTDAY'd me 2 new sticks and told me it was covered under my standard 3 year warranty)

So in the (current) absents of a "Liebermann" dream company... I recommend Boxxtech if you need a dependable workstation with a great company backing it up.

it is a luxury machine to me... and besides... it doesn't matter WHAT OS or computer platform you prefer... it still is just a "BOX". ; )
some people "interface" better with the APPLE Box
some people "interface" better with the "PC" Box
some people "interface" better with the LINUX Box

but we ALL have ONE thing in common... an unhealthy addiction to caffeine.
get some sleep. :)

does anyone have a sponsorship with redbull/burn for supplying them free drinks :P

best wishes
