It's Always something - Will not play video files

Post by morymb »

I've tried loading mov, mp4..no dice. It will take a jpg however, woo hoo! I am running 4.2.4 for the sole purpose of using my own feedback generator as this early version is supposed to run it, or should I say has run it. Now video won;t even load up in the panes when I drag it in from my desktop list. I've been thru this so many times before when I was using this last year. Why does this always happen?

Win or osx? Have you tried version 5? I find it very hard to believe that there is a feature in version 4 that 5 is unable to do.

Have you verified your codecs are working? have you tried playing your files with Quicktime to verify this?

Have you cleared your preferences file in-case there is some weird sort of config in there?

Just a few things I would start with.

Thanks. It's starnge, the files not working were mov files. I then ran them thru my wondershare video conversion software as mov's again and now they work. However now I'm getting dropped frames and choppy playback, esp when I go to record my output with fraps. The framerate is about 7 or so, which is garbage. I'm on a beefy windows laptop, 500gb ssd, 900 series graphics card nvidia, 32gb internal ram..so I wouldnt suspect this is a bottleneck. I have been considering just biting the vullet and rendering everything out thru the DNX codec at normal quality.

Thanks !

Windows 10 on an ASUS gaming laptop (15 lb beast machine)
32gb ram
8 gb nvidia 980 dedicated
500 ssd
2.41 ghz w/overclock at 3ghz with nvidia allocation
resolume avenue 4.2 build
all my configs in resolume are default as I just reinstalled after taking a year off

All I really want to do is run some of my self photographed clips through the engine and add my feedback generator. It has been noted that this particular feedback generator has only been successfully tested on resolume ave 4 build so I have not yet installed newer versions of resolume. I finally got the feedback effects to work and my output is sound..now the framerate hurdle...so..I'll try the DNX codec way at normal quality and see if that puts a pep in it's step. I'd be happy with 24fps locked on my FRAPS screen record render.

What codec are you encoding with? DXV3 is by far the way to go!

It's going to be a very large file compared to other codec's because it's un-compressed. Just wanted to give you a heads up.

My content folder on my laptops is over 800GB.
But in regards to performance, DXV3 is the bee's knee's!

Shouldn't be too much of a space issue because I am only treating partial clips for this feedback effect. Like literally a few seconds at a time and once I capture with FRAPS and re-import into adobe premiere and it's kosher, I'll delete my source files. Hardcore workaround situation happening.

But as far as codecs and DXV3 goes, I'm still limited in scope of knowledge. Once I bath process and convert reg mov files thru the adobe premiere output as dXV3 files, is that to say that resolume will have no problem rendering them for playback? Or do I still need to install their dXV3 codec,m as well? I thought I read that their needed stuff to run dXV3 codecs was already installed as a default option? Sorry, just a little confused. Don't wanna skip steps then still be scratching my head.

DXV3 installs with resolume. Your native file explorer won't want to play them (neither will vlc) but adobe has no problems with them and neither does quicktime.
