A solution for last minute powerpoints?

Post by pdewitte »

Goodmorning!

Yesterday, I started experimenting with Spout and came across the NDI > Spout plugin.
NDI has some great cross-platform capabilities, and can easily integrate different videosources in all kinds of programs.

I was looking for an easier way to capture desktops into Resolume, because I use the advanced output with LED-screens.
The reason for this? Every time we have screens at weddings or business-anniversary, presenters come last minute with their powerpoints on notebooks/flash drives. Most of the time, I have my laptop with me without a capturecard, instead of my desktop with a BMD-mini-recorder.

vMix came with the great FREE utilty DesktopCapture>NDI which captures the desktop and broadcasts it over the local network. http://www.vmix.com/software/download.a ... topcapture
Together with the NDI > Spout plugin, you can receive the desktop as a clip in your composition, and the day is saved :)
No hassles with forgotten capturecards, long HDMI/SDI cables, and EDID/HDCP-issues anymore :D

Hey this is great, I always have problems with power point, corporate events, and Resolume. Always get, " why cant I just run Power point from my computer and split it to 2 or more screens...."

NDI has a free tool that comes with the standard installation called "NDI Scan Converter" it is a desktop capture program that runs in the taskbar. Might save you a program and a step.

Not sure what you're experience is with the NewTek desktop capture app, but last time I use it, it was pretty CPU intensive. I usually do what's been mentioned, hook up a secondary machine running PPT or Keynote, and then feed that in as a live input. Works well.
