GPU vs Blackmagic Output settings?

Post by carlos »

MacPro Late 2013
3,5Ghz 6-core Xeon E5
16GB RAM 1866 MHz
AMD Fire Pro D500 3072MB

Decklink Quad in Sonnet Thunderbolt chassis
Ultrastudio 4K Thunderbolt

The system is in use as a playback machine and can easily play 3 1920*1080 50i streams in ProRes 422 and an extra stream in 4444 with key/fill outputs at broadcast quailty.

We're testing the system with Resolume Arena for vidiwall usage. Playback doesnt have to be as precise but the performance is pretty poor. A 3840*1080 composition with 4K background video and a 1920*1080 Source is choppy and tearing on the outputs, but almost fine when viewing the Advanced Outputs window on the main "control" monitor. Where does the Fire Pro processing stop and Blackmagic begin, and are there things we should be aware of? Searches came up with pretty global setup flowcharts without any real configuration explanations.

thanks

Have you tried the same setup using DXV codec instead of ProRes 422 & 4444?

It's less processing and latency if you got straight out of the Mac to converters . I used to use pro res when I was doing film because of the colour. I'm assuming your in a similar high end environment that doesn't allow dxv. You'll find the lack of sync between outputs and noticeable lag ontop of extra system resources can be fixed with some decimators.
