LED mapping layout tips

Post by georgemoon »

Hi all,

I'm creating a lighting rig for a small stage as shown in the image below. Im just not sure the best way to go about making the mask for the different led stip pieces. Ive also posted a picture of my mask that I intend to use. Just not sure if there is a better way i could be laying it out that will be easier to animate clips like line traces etc.

any input is greatly appreciated!

I personally would try to align my fixtures in advanced output the same as they are aligned on the stage.
That way the content will be placed the same as it's in my composition.
But it depends on what type of animations you want to use on those strips.
Line traces could be done easier with the layout you posted.

I'm planning on mainly using fades, chasing and line tracing effects. That was why i was trying to plot the design only using straight lines so I can animate block shapes under the mask to create effects that flow along the lines easily and then record through syphon. Just not sure if its the best method I'm quite new to this! Attached is the new LED layout, I think it flows better than the previous design.

Is there also a recommended size to make the fixtures in the advanced output. I know resolume averages the video output pixels for the leds so was thinking the less stretching will be better, so the led's dont flicker between colours too much when using vj clips?
