mJPG codec and resolume 2.2

Post by Anonymous »

Hi,
For the start:

Operating System: Windows XP with SP2 installed
Processor: AMD Athlon 1800+
Videocard: ATI Radeon 9600 128 MB Ram
Files type: AVI
Codec: PIC Video 3 M-JPEG

The problem:
I use Resolume 2.2 in two places: at home (Win XP), and at a club (Win 2000 with a Duron CPU and ATI graphics card). The problem showed up recently. I compress my video to .avi with virtualdub and using the M-JPG codec. In Resolume 2 the video was played ok. In 2.2 it got black and white, with strange stripes and rotated a bit to the side (as if loosing synchro). Media Player plays them ok. The video was resized, and I had to tune up some M-JPEG options to achive normal palyback (if I did the resizing with default M-JPEG settings, the video looked strange, at it does now in Resolume 2.2). The best thing is, that if I remove the codec from my XP machine, Resolume 2.2 plays it good :(. The same thing happens on my Windows 2000 machine.
I humbly ask your help.
Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,
Bill

Hi,
I forgot to mention, that in the file log.txt something like this shows up, when loading the M-JPEG movies:
VFWmovie : movememory failed 2005-04-18 14:39:03

Kind regards,
Bill

Hi,
Windows has a standard mjpeg codec installed, so if you don't have the right codec installed it wil use it's default mjpeg decoder.

What mjpeg codec are you using and can you send me a small .avi for testing (mail: edwin@resolume.com).

We know that some codecs are not supported anymore in 2.2. Although some other codecs wich did not work in 2 do work in 2.2.
Your best bet is now (and sorry for the inconvience) to find a good codec that does work and batch convert your footage. Morgan mjpeg is a good and very fast codec. If you are looking for a good codec see wether it's support VFW. If it doesn't resolume will try to open it using directshow but for some codecs the fallback does not allways work.

Cheers
Edwin

Hi,
I've sent you an e-mail containing a movie and a screenshot. I'm using Pegasus Imaging m-jpeg codec.

Hi,
Problem solved :). I had to read the manual (How silly of me that I haven't done it at the start) and turn on Swap fields and Force YUV output option. Now it runs smooth.
Thank's for the advice

Bill

Fairly sure it doesn't. Qiucktime does if its installed but only for .mov files. .avi MJPEG codecs need to be downloaded.

Maybe I'm wrong or you get it with latest media player?
