Methods of applying masks

Post by danklim »

Hi i’m starting to use masks in resolume and am trying to figure out the best ways to do it. Could you please help?

I have watched some tutorials and read the manual and I see three different methods to apply masks: the auto mask feature, the 50 masks blend mode, and the layer mask mode (that you can change when you right click a layer).

I’m looking to simply apply a mask to the layer below right now, but i’m interested in all of these different options and am curious to learn what the difference between these methods are.

Is there a difference between these 3 methods? If so, how do they compare? What are the differences/similarities?

Do they have different purposes or use cases?

Are any of the methods better/more effective than the others?

Thanks, Dan

The auto mask effect removes the black from a clip/layer etc and makes that black area transparent.
If you have mainly moving masks that you want to use as a mask, then set a layer to masking mode and place your masks as clips., of course you can also use stills as clips in a masking layer.
If you have an image you'd like to use as a mask, you can do that on the clip, layer, etc level with the Mask effect.

It all depends on what you are trying to achieve, so I wouldn't pick a 'best' way of these.
