just got my new inspiron 8200 and and unfortuneletly am having problems with the new beta... system is:
xp
1.8mhz mobile 4 cpu
256ram
geforcego440 64mb
i'm using cinepak codec.
but literally every second the video sticks for a long enough time to be very annoying and noticeable this is using one layer and no effects. aside from this problem everything seems fine so far...
video plays fine in windows media player and vjamm. and i don't have this problem with my old 266mhz!
i've tryed changing all the colour depth and resolution etc. but the problem occurs the same for all of them and i havent even got around to setting up dual monitor yet.
is it xp?
help.
chris.
video sticking every second!
ive had the same problem with some files. its been rather random when its happend. however i solved it by using an external firwire harddrive...all clips run much smoother from that drive. im on very similar setup as yours...only difference beeing im 1.6, 384 ram and 32 on the gforce. suppose this could help u aswell. if you found another solution to this problem id love to hear about it.
also having this problem inspiron 8200 geforce4 440 32mb 1.8ghz P4 512 mb RAM. Im certain that its a graphics card issue. I can run resolume much better on an 8000 with 850mhz P3, geforce2 16mb, win ME(98lite stripped version),128mb ram! Have tried lots tweak utils & various NVIDIA drivers (official, hacked, dell) but problem is still there. Try running visualjockey R3.2 and u will see how bad this problem can be! Im going to try dell to see if i can change the graphics card to an ATI mobility radeon.
I'm having the same problem with a Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop. I've tried lots of things as well - multiple display drivers, made sure XP was completely up to date, tried external firewire drive... I get the same stuttering video. I have a couple other ideas but from what I read on here it doesn't sound good...
Ok, more info - I have another Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop at work that we loan out to faculty so I decided to try restaging it using Windows 2000. Previous to this I had installed ALL the BIOS updates (system BIOS, video BIOS, hard drive BIOS), all the XP updates, etc. and the video was still sticking. So I moved to the other system, restaged it with Win2k but NO Windows Media 9 update. So I'm not sure whether it was Windows 2000 that fixed it or not installing Windows Media 9. Of course now I have to figure out how to do this on MY laptop which of course I have tons of things installed and do NOT relish restaging it with Win2k. I'm sure there are others using XP fine out there with their systems, but so far this seems to be the only fix I've seen that works for the Inspiron 8200.
The best I have been able to do is kind of a mess of a work around. I'm going to have to save up for a desktop to lug around. This is the best I could do: I restaged the laptop with Windows 2000. This seems to solve the sticking problem for me. HOWEVER then there are huge issues with dual monitor support and using either the VGA out or the S-video out - basically it just doesn't work the way you'd like it to. It doesn't work the way it does in Windows XP... allowing you to have two different resolutions on the two monitors. In Windows 2k as far as I can tell you must use the same resolution for both monitors which obviously causes problems. SO I ended up using a TView Gold on the VGA out... it uses a zoom function to zoom in the video monitor in the upper right. Oh yeah, I also use a firewire hard drive - but it's still not as fast as my friend's desktop. It's a crappy workaround and I'll admit, NOT what I was hoping for. Any how, I believe it basically comes down to the nVidia Geforce 440 driver causing problems somewhere along the line. If someone else has more complete info, PLEASE share as this is a complete pain - if only the video didn't stick in XP, everything would be great! Thanks!
