Timeline conundrum

Post by Empyfree »

Thought I’d throw this one out to the forum.

We’re doing an art gallery install tomorrow, four projectors plus a plasma screen.

Client has given us one nineteen minute long video, plus a script with 35 “cues”.

For example,

00:00:00.00 to 00:00:34.21 - screens 1,2 and 5 (plasma)
00:00:34.22 to 00:01:21.12 - screen 3
And so on, continuous playback of the VT, but appearing on different walls of the room at various points.

In Advanced output we’ve used one 4K output to do the four projectors (split via a Datapath X4’s) and a separate HD output for the plasma.

HD composition.

Our solution, we’ve duplicated the VT 35 times, and set the in/out points as per the script. 35 columns. This is the top layer, but is layer to slice routed to the bottom of the advanced output. Splitting it up allows us to jump to any “cue”.

We’ve then created five more layers, each layer to slice routed to the specific regions of the advanced output. In each clip position on these layers we’ve then put a black solid or a clear “solid” with their duration set to the cue duration. This was the best way I could come up with the show/hide segments at pre programmed intervals.

Everything then autopilots along.

Any better suggestions, thoughts, etc? I had a lovely solution working earlier with the clip playing in Mitti, Mitti driving a Vezer timeline and Vezer triggering the columns as required. Not end user (gallery staff) friendly though!

Probably should have bought five Brightsign players and just pre rendered the VT’s. Get the feeling the clients going to be making on site amends though!
