0kB composition files and freezing outputs

Post by brozmical »

I had a terrible experience last night live on a show where my resolume setup freezed during a show that was going on, and both my compostion and advanced output files reverted to 0kb. Im on Arena v6
with a Gigabyte Aero 15 with GTX 1080 and GTX 1060 with 2.8ghz i7 chip. 32 gig ram and all data running from SSD. Playback for audio was still working but video was not.On restart both the advanced output and composition files reverted to 0kb. This is really not something I can have happen on a live show, are there any solutions I could possibly explore?

Related to this- are there any solutions to having spout or NDI running from separate GPUs ? I can't get resolume to launch exclusively on the 1080 consistently so the frame buffer for spout and NDI can run. Does anyone know any workarounds this?

That doesn't sound good at all.
Resolume only writes the composition file if you explicitly tell Resolume to Save or open Media manager.
The Advanced output files are saved on close.

At what point did the freeze happen?
Gigabyte Aero 15 with GTX 1080 and GTX 1060
Are you using the 1080 via thunderbolt?
Are your drivers up to date?

NDI is not running on the GPU, it's software encoded, by your CPU.
Nvidia Control panel should have a setting for the desired GPU you want to use on program level.
I assume it could revert to defaults if the GPU is not present in the system.

Could you please send us your log file via the preferences - Feedback tab?
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply Zoltan, just got back into looking at this. For the Spout NDI issue would you recommend running NDI if I'm using more than one GPU at a time? I get a directX/OpenGL buffer issue if Im running Spout with Unity running at the same time.
the 1080 is running off an eGPU with a usb Type-C connection.
Sadly I can't reproduce the error with the log.
The freeze occured in the midst of playing back a clip, video froze then the next clips didn't play. Force-closing the program resulted in the 0kb file.

We don't have much experience with eGPU systems.
The video stopping could be as simple as a bad cable to the eGPU, and the driver losing connecting for a brief moment.
It's very hard to say without seeing it actually happen or having a crash log.
For the Spout NDI issue would you recommend running NDI if I'm using more than one GPU at a time?
I'd use NDI mainly when I need to send video over a network.
Spout should be much faster and efficient for local texture sharing, just make sure both the sender and receiver is running on the same GPU.
