Map A Knob To A Specific Clip Parameter Regardless Of Which Clip Is Selected?

Post by SnackLabsOne »

mapping a Launch Control XL on Arena 7.

the goal is to have a layer of 8 effect clips, each corresponding to a fader & 3 knobs on my LC XL, and to be able to use them all the time, not just one at a time when they are selected / in focus. much like the composition dashboard functions.

as is, when focus isnt on the clip, i have no control over that clip.

this seems like im doing something wrong or have missed a basic option somewhere. please help?

Hi Snack,
add the effects to your composition or the layer and not to the clip deck itself.

best wishes

okay so it is not possible to map a control to a clip parameter & make it stay there?

i was hoping to use this to maintain control of not only effects clips (which would affect a column instead of a layer or whole comp) but also to maintain constant control of logos i have loaded into certain clips.

if i have to find other way of doing it i can but this seems like something that would have so many applications within resolume. permanent clip control, whether a content clip, source clip, or effect clip, just seems like something i always assumed was there. weird to find out that it isnt :\

i have tried the This option, but it applies to clip position, not clip focus.

an additional drop down for focus options would be pretty cool in the future, but thank you for trying to assist! :D

What's "focus" ?
playing clip?

How about stacking your effects into a single effect clip in a layer?

Playing 8 clips at the same time in a single layer won't work, you can only have 1 (2 if transitioning) playing in a layer.

by focus i mean the clip currently selected, which is the focus of the midi inputs.

im not sure i understand your last comment. im not trying to play 8 effect clips at the same time. im just trying to play one effect clip (or any type of clip) with one midi button and *always* have it affect that single clip. this is why i use the word focus. because clearly the focus is shifted to another clip, which means the midi button's focus shifts to the new clip rather than staying on the clip i mapped it.

i want the option to make clips mappings optionally function like the composition mappings do. always there for ya so in the mapping panel, a drop down to change a mapping between "focus" (how it works now) or "always" (what im requesting) would imo be a killer addition to the already wonderful mapping system.

anyway cheers again. :D

"This Clip" shortcuts will always affect the specific clip you mapped them to. This is for
*always* have it affect that single clip. this is why i use the word focus. because clearly the focus is shifted to another clip, which means the midi button's focus shifts to the new clip rather than staying on the clip i mapped it.
"Selected clip" will affect the clip which is selected in the Clip panel.
"By position" will affect the layer/column position you mapped it to.
