programmatic deck construction

I'm examining the xml structure of a "deck" within a "composition".
Is there any documentation available that can help me construct an ad hoc decks on the fly (assuming I know the exact strings of the asset filepaths and clip names etc.) and not have to manually create the deck using the gui?
