Hi folks,
Let's explain my goal : I wanna desaturate a clip but with a circular gradient. I mean I would like to have the center of the image with normal saturation, and gradually desaturate from the center to the edge of the frame (also the edge would be totally desaturate).
I tried to apply a PNG file of a circular gradient and to use it as a mask to apply an effect of desaturation it. But the mask act as an opacity mask. I can't find a way to use it as a saturation mask.
Maybe the mask isn't the right to do that. Would have any idea how to resolve that?
Best regards
Jonathan
Apply an effect on a part of the frame of a clip
Re: Apply an effect on a part of the frame of a clip
Easiest way would be to build a Wire FX with your FX and have a custom mask apply that to the original texture using a transform node. You could hack this within Resolume using effects and masks, but Wire would save your ui and headache.

I would go a different route. I would use a radial wipe blend mode on the effect that you want to desaturate. I made one for you (and everybody else who is interested) just drop it in Arena and select it as a blend mode on the effects, and play around with the controls. You won't see anything happening until you take that opacity of the effect down. I hope this will solve your problem. Enjoy.

Wow, thank's a lot tijnisfijn !
That's very nice to share it.
Actually, I can't use this patch. As it's shown in the attached screen capture the patch is well copied in the Patch folder but I can't find it in the Wire effect. Maybe is that because I work on Avenue, not Arena (but I'm not sure). Maybe would you agree to share the editable Wire Patch? I have a Wire licence.
If you're interested in the reason of this subject. This is because I heard about a neuro-psychologic experience that prove that our view capture only the colors of the center of the field of view, and around there our mind create the colors (thanks to the move of our eyes that "scan" the full view). Also the experiment prove that if we ask people to watch the center of an image (at the beginning the image is normally saturate) and the image is gradually desaturate from the center to the edge, also the viewers don't notice the colors vanishing. Amazing no? I would like to experiment it in live.

And thanks a lot Arvol,
I had in mind to make something with mask. But I can't figure how here do you use a transform node. As I can see transform node propose value in Translation, Rotation, Scale, Anchor. How do you use it?
Best regards

Hi, if you installed it, you can find the plug-in in the blend mode section not the effect section....
let me know if it works....

Hey Tijnisfijn, I answer with a few delay, sorry.
Thanks a lot for this sharing. I'm very glad, this works well !
Yes, that's a great job.
I would just have known how the patch works to increase my Wire skills. But if you wanna propose your script as editable on Juicebar for few dollars, I will order it for sure.
Thanks all and glad to continue the Resolume adventure.

I was just reading your message and I was thinking why not just make a little tutorial about it so you go hope this is helpful.... With me know if you have more questions
Re: Apply an effect on a part of the frame of a clip
wow, this is a lot of great information.
Thank you so much. If you've got a Patreon, and publish tutorials or stuff on it, I would be happy to participate.
Also, good to know about the good way to make a blur with shape render to prevent from bad use of the processor.
I allow me to try to go a bit further in this. I told about the experience that prove that radial desaturation of an image doesn't really affect vision, actually this works the same way with the resolution of our view. We've got a central point with high resolution and resolution decrease radially to the edges. I try to figure how to make it with the same patch. But I don't think I could apply this mixer on a "resolution" effect in Resolume, I can't see this kind of effect. But maybe with the Resize node in Wire I could manage something. But this time this should be an Effect and not a Mixer to edit with Wire, isn't it? And would you have any idea how to process ?
Thanks again and wish you the best !
