Good day guys,
as the topic already mentions I have a live setup with Touchdesigner running on laptop 1 sending out images via NDI to my second laptop that runs Resolume and gives out the image as an 8-bit picture (the fastest option in the Resolume settings for the NDI source).
In some situations the output image appears to be slower and less responsive / fluid compared to the output from Touchdesigner although none of my computers - neither in Touchdesigner nor in Resolume - experience a framerate drop. In addition, the output in the NDI studio monitor is played back smoothly on the notebook on which Resolume is also running.
It also seems to me that Resolume plays my various Touchdesigner scenes more smoothly when playing them for the 2nd or 3rd time (but still not completely free of flaws) after switching in other Touchdesigner scenes in between (they are all in the same Touchdesigner file but I switch between different scenes using the Scenechanger).
I don't know if this is also worth knowing for the problem but when I use an USB-C network adapter I get a more severe picture stutter compared to using an USB-A adapter (both transmit 1,000 mbs).
The ethernet connection is currently free of other protocols such as OSC and is only used for NDI transmission. However, it is actually planned to send BPM information via Ableton Link from Touchdesigner to Resolume as well. But that's another topic.
So far I'd be very happy about any hint in the right direction to get a clean NDI playback without any issues.
Best regards
Tobias
NDI connection from Touchdesigner to Resolume occasionally slower / less responsive
Re: NDI connection from Touchdesigner to Resolume occasionally slower / less responsive
USB adapters often don't give the speed they promise.
How fast does a file copy from one machine to the other?
Also make sure Wifi adapters are disabled on both machines. NDI tends to default to the Wifi adapter for some reason.

Re: NDI connection from Touchdesigner to Resolume occasionally slower / less responsive
Good day Zoltan,
thank you very much for your quick response. Unfortunately I have only just read your answer. It makes no difference whether I use a usbc or usb 3.0 network adapter - with both adapters I have a constant speed of 112 mb/s when copying files. Does that correspond to the actual transfer rate?
This is the hardware I am using right now for the network connection:
TP-Link TL-SG105 5-Ports Gigabit Netzwerk Switch (https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00A12 ... UTF8&psc=1)
Cat 8 Ethernet-Cble 1M (https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B08R74 ... =UTF8&th=1)
Anker PowerExpand USB-C auf Gigabit Ethernet Adapter
(https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B08CK9 ... UTF8&psc=1)
BENFEI USB Ethernet Adapter 1000Mbps
(https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B08KWC ... UTF8&psc=1)
For my setup it is usually about 2k resolutions eg. 2000x1000p with 60 fps, which corresponds to a transmission load of approx. 110 - 120 mb/s, if you take the ndi white paper as a reference (https://ndi.tv/tools/education/networki ... -practice/)
WIFI is always off on all machines.

Re: NDI connection from Touchdesigner to Resolume occasionally slower / less responsive
is that 112 mb/s megaBits or megaBytes?
If it's megabits, that would pretty slow, even for a 1080p stream.
