Extended speed control

Extended speed control

Which methods do you prefer to use to adjust the speed when the pre-selected minimum speed is too high.
a) Adjust speed by entering numbers, do not drag the speed button
c) Select random playback and adjust speed and interval
d) Add the layer the effect is used in to a group and adjust the speed at the group level
e) Using envelopes for parameters with e.g. keep going
f) frequency and or phase adjustment where available
g) Adds "Stop motion" effect - adjusts frequency
h) Adding "Trails"
i) Adding "Acuarela"
j) Adding "Freeze"
k) Record a sequence and edit the speed of the clip in a video editing program.

l) Adds an effect that is not in the list above. (which?)
m) Uses external control osc midi (describe?)

Thank you to those of you who bother to read so much and possibly give an answer. I'm too old for MDA, but I like Resolume :-)

Interesting list. Thank you. I had fun reading it.

Since we are talking about content which is not beat-synced... in that case, I am an "H" guy. I quite often knob-in trails to visually reduce the speed of a clip or a composition. From time to time, I also use "Add Subtract" to get a swoosh to a solid color if there is an abrupt drop in bpm. It might sound strange, but on my shows, I never use the master speed or the clip speed fader on non-beat-synced clips. If trails and stuff don't work for the moment, I jump to some pre-prepared clips for different speed situations.

I'm not crazy layering my clips in a show... I mostly work horizontally in my clip decks, so I have the scrollbar MIDI/OSC mapped, allowing me to instantly jump to specific regions in my deck.

What about you?

Best wishes,
cosmowe

Thanks for the feedback! I bought Resolume to use it for art installations and as a backdrop for poetry readings. I find that the starting speed is generally too high in the generic sources. I want the movement at the start of the reading to be turned off and only turned on and regulated by sound. For me, it is the effects Acuarella and Trails that have been the most useful precisely because they slow down the movements in the composition. It is a compromise because Acuarella and Trails also distort what is shown. Stop Motion helps to reduce the number of movements. Opacity with hold envelopes also helps. I am trying to get an overview of which parameters in each individual source regulate the speed and number of views of each individual source and effect. I adjust all parameters and see when it becomes motionless. In some sources such as e.g. Sine Wave that comes with Resolume and "analog0" a plugin created by Dan Chelger, the speed is determined by the combination of several parameters. In order to stop the movement completely in Sine Wave, amplitude must be set to 0. In Line Scape, wobble must be set to 0. I also try to take advantage of the playback function randomly with intervals to get a more subtle display than what you see on a typical VJ show.
