s-video out and recording
s-video out and recording
Has anyone experience with recording via 's-video out' on videocard and 's-video in' on a dvd-recorder with HDD? Does that works and if so, does it drop frames?
that's perfect. when i play shows, i amplify and split my s-video signal, and almost always have one going right into a dvd recorder and it workes perfectly. I've tried on 3 different dvd recorders, never with an hdd but i can't imagine why it wouldn't work just as well. You're set.
Kind of on the same note - i've always insisted i get an audio line in from the mixing board for effect driving... splitting this and running into dvd recorder also and you've got a perfect recording of the entire performance. The audio line is actually part of my contract...

I have exactly the same experiance as Nexus.Recording works brilliant! I also use the line out from the DJ mixer.
Beware before you buy; watch carefully to the back of the device. Look if there are enogh options for line input.
I bought this one, the HDD Sony RDR-HX710:

When burned to DVD it spits out regular DVD vob files. Information from G-spot: MPEG-2 program stream. Size 720x576, 25 fps, pixel ratio 1,066.
Did a little test:
As known, Premiere takes no vob files. So I copied a vob file from the DVD to my HD and renamed the vob file into mpeg. Then I imported this mpeg file into Premiere, it takes it with no problem.
In Premiere I cut out a piece of 1 minute and recompressed it to an 640x480 uncompressed avi 30 fps. (At first time I tried to compress directly into Indeo, but this gave enormeous framedrops.) When the uncompressed avi was finished, I imported it into After Effects and compressed the file to Indeo. Et voila, smooth as hell.
Tested the output in Resolume and mixed it with some other footage; perfect!:D
