Wire - scroll when arranging dashboard

Post by mowgli »

Currently, rearranging dashboard elements in Wire does not allow you to drag things beyond the visible area of the dashboard tab.
The dashboard content should scroll when dragging elements beyond its visible area.

Basic UI fixes in Wire

Post by mowgli »

The more I use Wire, the more frustrated I get with some of the most basic lacks and oversights in the overall UI and the impact on UX. While I fully understand that from a marketing standpoint and a developer's interest level these kinds of improvements are not the most exciting, they are the ones that have the most impact on regular users. While I might use a particular feature of Wire every once in a while, I deal with its interface every single time I open the software.

As an example, here are 2 of my suggestions from the past. Nothing out of the ordinary, just basic, tried and tested, convention-following, established UI patterns:

There are similar issues mentioned by other users, some are fairly old which don't get addressed while far more involved and complicated new features are added.

Being a UX/UI designer, I have to admit that I have an augmented sensitivity to these things. Because I've been working in that field for a very long time, I can also say that these often-overlooked problems can have a huge impact on user's first impressions and ongoing level of satisfaction with the product. Sooner or later, this affects the bottom line.

I understand your frustration. And we are hard at work on making this better. but to be honest, I never knew that that was a thing untill a view weeks ago. but there is sort of a way of doing this now as well. I never knew this was possible. But if you drag a cable to your dashboard or library and then you go back to your main screen, your cable keeps connected to your mouse, so you can then hold space and drag to wherever you want. Unfortunately, this does not work for nodes
