Frame drop/stutter/hiccup issue

Post by MARes »

Hi
I'm inexperienced in the world of Resolume and by no means an expert on media servers and similar.
I'm off-line programming for a tour going out soonish and have been experiencing jumps/stutters/hiccups, call them what you will, when running content.
This is simple playback, not using any effects or similar.
The files are hi-res, e.g. 4k, so generally quite large, from GB's into the 10s of GB.
At first I had thought it was down to running into a visualiser then CODEC, fps, etc.
Files have been converted using Alley and are running off the internal hard drive.
Changing fps and monitor frequency have effect but don't cure.
Having tried on both Mac M3 Max and PC AMD AI 9 HX 370, running mains power to avoid graphics card power reduction/similar, the same issues are present.
Obviously where there is jumpy content in clips it isn't really noticeable but slow pans/similar are where it really shows up.
The frame jumps, i.e. picture freezes momentarily dropping a frame or more then continues, aren't exactly consistent and generally are much worse if, for test purposes, a clip is played backwards.
The issue appears to be caused by/related to clip resolution and monitors:-
If resolution is not the same as the monitor screen, resizing, going full-screen, etc. manifests the problem.
If doing a clean start with no external monitor connected then running a clip using a generic movie player, the clip runs smoothly. Connect a monitor and then the problems start and continue even if you disconnect the monitor and run only on the built-in screen of the computer (Resolume Display 1). It is like Windows 11 and Mac OS are carrying a sending a flawed setting to the external monitor then moving it to the internal monitor. Reboot the system without external monitor connected and it sometimes still holds over the issue.
Having initially thought Resolume was the issue I tried a different media server app and still got the same problem.
I've even tried different HDMI output adaptors.
The only thing I haven't been able to try is a different brand/model of monitor, however you would think it shouldn't matter when the external monitor is not connected.
Though unlikely on different OS, is there a hidden setting somewhere one wonders?

Having thought it was Resolume, I had been in touch with Resolume support.
I'm posting in case anyone else is in the same situation or knows the exact cause and solution.
