lag on clip trigger

Post by armitageshanks »

is it just me or does everyone get a lag/delay when they trigger a clip? is this just a simple case of my mbp not having a fast enough hard drive?

i use mjpeg or mov codec so not thinking this is the cause.

it's quite annoying when you want to trigger a clip to land on a beat...

is this solved by getting a fast external hdd that you connect via firewire?

cheers guys,

armitage

is your clip long? Its almost certain that a long clip in a slow HD will have a delay. Even worst if is mov, I think.

If is not long, check your hd speed(RPM). A 4200 or a 5400 is not a perfect choice. Ideally, you should stick with a 7200+

Are you using avi files with your mjpeg codec? I know it sounds silly but I didn't have a good experience with those. Try to use picvideo MJPEG. I think is the best out there.

And yes, and external hardwire can resolve this. Just use an usb 2.0 or firewire and you are ready to go :)
