Hi everyone,
A bit of a random / off-topic question, but still related to how we work with Resolume.
I’ve been doing a lot of shows and testing late at night lately, and realized that my eyes were breaking after a few hours in front of the screens. I ended up putting a small bedside lamp with a warm dimmable bulb next to my desk/control area instead of just sitting in the dark with the monitors on, and honestly it’s much more pleasant Less eye strain, and the whole "lab" looks more like a comfortable workspace than a hospital
Curious to know if any of you pay attention to the ambient light in your VJ or studio installation?
Do you keep it almost completely black, or do you use some kind of light / side lamp in the cabin? And if so, do you prefer a very warm light or something more neutral so that the colors on the screen are not too shifted?
Interested in hearing how you manage the "room light" part of the installation, not just screens and projectors.
Ambient light in your VJ setup?
Re: Ambient light in your VJ setup?
Yes,
You also probably have your monitor brightness dialed up waay to much, especially if using it in HDR mode.
I have a warm white LED bulb I use on the white wall behind my monitors.
Eyes are pretty fast to adapt to lighting, so when your office transitions from daylight to dark, eyes try to adapt to the dark, and your monotrs get too bright for that. Adding lights help.
I would not do colored lights though, for the same reason, if you're doing color related work at night.

I keep a dim warm lamp beside my desk too. It reduces eye strain and keeps colors on screens looking natural.
