Gainward GeForce2or3? plz?
Hello all, I've been doing my thing with vcr's and mixersa for many years.. now I'm seeking advice to stewp up... I have found good reviews and good ebay prices on the Gainward brand of GeForce cards. gf2 can be had under $50 and gf3 for under $80. This is within my price range, would either of these be a mistake? thanks so much...
My advice would be to keep saving until you can afford a good card.
Personally i use a Matrox G550 which is excellent. It has a "DualHeadZoom" function that means you can output any region of your computer monitor via the video/s-video out.
This makes it great for all sorts of software for live video (not just Resolume).
I have seen it advertised online for $85 (U.S dollars) - you also need the video/s-video breakout cable which is another $25 (check these prices, they could be wrong).

Thanks for the advice guys, I think I'll be springing for a G550, found some good deals. I have a big show coming up and I'm satisfied if I can get a nice little 2D system performing reliably for me. I read about mostly good experiences with this card.
Question for EtherWarpTv (or anyone), I already own a TViewGold scanny and I've always been happy with its output, do you think I should look into the Matrox TV-out cable for the g550? I'd rather not tie up the TView when the Matrox cable is so cheap (unless its crap). Geez I hope my resolume setup will perform well, not too much time to waste.

In my experience, the video output from matrox cards has always been excellent, but if you have a TView that works fine, by all means stick with it and save some $$$.
- i also have a TView gold somewhere - i used to use it until i bought the matrox ; ) - it works fine, but is one more piece of gear to carry around...
- Any other matrox issues or questions, feel free to mail me any time.

well I've seen the Matrox tv-out cable (rca and svhs) sell for as little as $6.25 on eBay. It sounds like yer happy with the output, so I'd rather use the TView with another (lowcost) system when I get enough parts together. I would have steered clear if you said it sucked.
I figure that a cheap micro-atx mobo with integrated vga, duron (anything greater than 800mhz) will play full-screen divx's just fine. It won't run Resolume or VJo well but it'd be a nice video-on-demand loop box to add a layer.
Thanks for the advice.

btw, the Matrox cards are known to have compatibility issues with via km266 based mobo's (as I have). My show this past weekend went great, evenb though it was without a pc present (still going analog). Since I'm on a budget i"m looking at an geforce mx440 for secondary display (output) and an el-cheapo pci card for my resolume display (stick with nView if I use 2 nVidia cards). I looked at your suggestion for a radeon8500le but I'd like to get a low-profile card for a book-pc size case, I don't think theres a Radeon lo-pro card. I just need fast playback of video, not going to play with realtime 3d that much. You guys see any issues with this setup?
thanks. Eno
