If you are in the search for a portable hardware, maybe this topic can help you with some performance reference.
Asus W2J laptop, one outdated machine, but... play 3 layers of 640x480 PICvideo mjpg codec (320x240 process screen), with 2 or 3 effects at the same time, all decks full and a lot of video scratching with no problems for hours (minimum drop frames). Sometimes, when I load a new video, the image freeze for about half a second but it return with no problems at all. I think this is because of the slow HD and low memory.
My Asus W2J configuration: Core Duo T2400 (not Core 2 Duo), 1GB RAM DDR2 533 , HD 100GB 5400rpm, ATI X1600 256MB, with separate partition for Resoume and a Korg K25 midi keyboard.
Any other reference of performance, will be welcome.

I've never come across 1 problem what so ever. Not just with Resolume but also Adobe Production Suite and i even played Supreme Commander on 1920x1600 on full detail (Not that thats got anything do with VJ'ing
). Handles anything i throw at it at rapid speed. It's a true desktop replacement and its portable. No overheating problems and isnt that noisy either. Only grime is 2 hour battery life but it's always plugged in, even when playing out so thats doesnt matter. And i went for the best screen, 1920x1200 Native and resolume doesnt suppport this resolution. Maybe something that should be addressed with resolume
. I've only used 720x564 videos and had no problem. If your only going use resolume, it's way over-powered, but if you plan on doing any production work such as Adobe's Production Suite, I highly reccomend a Dell M90, And i never thought i would ever say that knowing the problems past friends have had with Dells!!!

512MB Quadro FX3500M
100GB 7200RPM HDD

I live in rip-off britain so i imported it from the states for £1,550 delivered off ebay and got them put refurb $399 on it. Customs was £65 so £1,610 in total. If i ordered same spec in the UK i would have payed £2,500-£2,600 so a saving of around £1,000. If your buget reach's £1,500, I'd seriously consider importing!!!

Dear Messhead,
You have a great machine !
I live in a rip-off country too, maybe more than yours!
What is your process screen resolution ?
You get drop frames ?
thanks

Processing at 320x240, output 800x600. Does that make any difference the proccess resolution? I'm pretty new, well i am NEW to it all but as i said, no problem what so ever so no framedrops. I use the Wiimote as well and that means running GlovePIE & MidiTranslator in the background and still no problems.
Just practicing at the moment and tested it with friends (who are producers and DJ's) with there stuff trying get an act together where i do the visuals and they do the music. They already get gigs and stuff and i want some of the action

Despratly want the midi controller though
