I’ve seen a few threads lately regarding the limitations of sACN when dealing with specific hardware setups or complex universe routing in Resolume. If you’ve ever run into issues where your output device requires one protocol but your source/network is locked into another, I created a lightweight solution that might save your show.
It’s an open-source tool called DMXRouter.
What is it?
DMXRouter is a high-performance utility designed to bridge and convert between different DMX-over-IP protocols. It acts as a "middleman" that allows you to route data fluidly between Art-Net and sACN.
Why use it with Resolume?
While Resolume is powerful, network configurations on tour or in fixed installs can get messy. This tool is particularly useful if:
You need to convert sACN to Art-Net (or vice-versa) on the fly without adding significant latency.
You are hitting specific universe routing limitations or multicast/unicast conflicts.
You need to re-map universes between different network interfaces.
Key Features:
Protocol Conversion: Seamlessly switch between Art-Net and sACN.
Low Latency: Written to handle high-speed DMX data without lagging your visuals.
Flexible Routing: Easily define input and output rules for your DMX universes.
You can check out the repository and documentation here:
It’s a great "Swiss Army Knife" to keep in your utility folder for those gigs where the network hardware doesn't want to cooperate with your software settings.
Hope someone finds this useful for their next project!
