Help using BPM Sync

Post by bodhiflip »

I wonder if anyone can help me figure out BPM Sync. I'm not a musician so I'm probably missing some obvious things, but I'm trying to replicate the way the Demo Deck that comes with Avenue works, using some loops of a drummer, and some of a bass player.

In the demo deck, I see its set to 8 Beats and it sounds like the normal speed, and clips always trigger on time perfectly. My drum beat is a 4 beats (i think), but when i set it to 4 beats it sounds a little slow. It sounds like normal at about 3.7, but setting it to 4 seems to mean that they trigger in sync more often. However, when I trigger a second loop of the drummer doing a slightly different version of the same beat, it only sometimes triggers at the correct time, seemingly dependent on when I trigger the new clip.
The bass player clips don't really trigger in sync at all, even though I've made the clips of the bass player and drummer all the same length and they mix together well when I play around with them in Adobe Premiere. So I was assuming that if they are all set to the same Beats (4) they should trigger in sync, but they are all over the place.

Also if anyone could just give me a brief explanation of the difference between BPM Sync modes: Beats, Auto, BPM, because I don't really get it.

Thanks to anyone who can help me out!

Make sure that the tempo in R3 matches the tempo of the loops you have.

you will also want to check under the composition menu, beat snap, that it is set to 1bar or higher
