Last night I experienced a behavior in Avenue that can't be intended.
Apparently if the path to a media file becomes invalid the clip is lost from the composition! I had mistakenly named a folder of media files "DVX" but then after realizing I got the codec name wrong I renamed it "DXV". Then when I relaunched Avenue my composition was empty! I needed to rebuild it. Luckily it was a simple comp, but if it had been super complex I would have been quite upset.
Thanks.
File path change empties composition
Re: File path change empties composition
We need to come up with a simple solution to locate missing files. At this moment files that can't be found will not be loaded in the composition.
Re: File path change empties composition
I would recommend not bothering to find missing files since media search can be a real challenge (PBCatSearch and its replacement are nice on the Mac but not all volumes support it, and I'm not aware of an equivalent on Windows). Instead, if a file cannot be found display a "media offline" slide like video editors do. But Please, keep the path to the original media file, the path may be valid in the future and the offline state just temporary.
Right now I'm planning out how I'm going to move a composition from one computer to another and I'm realizing this design limitation is going to hit me. The file paths the existing composition is using on the Mac Pro will not exist on the MacBook Pro, so I guess I'll need to move all of the media to a FireWire drive and rebuild the composition
