hello

i have an event where i will need a few live feeds. am i right thinking that i need to use different cams instead of several of the same to avoid problems?

when you say cams i suppose you mean webcams, and yes, if you need several webcams then you need to have different models, if you have the same model then you will only see one webcam in your list.
