radeon eyefinity multiscreen output with no need for matrox

Post by 1000errors »

I saw this video of a new hp laptop running 3 1080p monitors straight out the vga, hdmi and display ports with no need for a matrox tripple head. Basically I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the ati eyefinity graphics cards and software and resolume? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yo5fYItj9fo
more specifically I was wondering if has had any experience with the new dell studio 17 laptop that features the ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5650 GPU whihc according to the ati website also features eyefinity 3 screen support.

it will not do 3 external monitors + its own screen.

i'm more tempted by the desktop version which has 6 displayports out. You should (i think) be able to put 2 or 3 of them in a single machine and have upto 18 outputs from a single machine.

the problem isn't the number of monitor outputs at that point it's playing enough content to fill them all. even running just XGA res outputs would need a monster machine to be able to stream that much video

We have no experience with the mobile edition, but the Eyefinity works fine with Resolume on a desktop setup. One good thing to note is that the Eyefinity is very picky about its outputs, and will only work with minidisplay to VGA adapters on two output ports at the time, The rest has to be pure minidisplay.
