Force tab to remain visible + workspaces suggestion

Is it possible to force a tab to remain visible? I am mainly referring to the Composition Effects tab. I prefer using the Active layer as a clip target since I can easily select the appropriate layer from my midi device. However whenever I select a particular layer the tab automatically changes to Layer Properties. I prefer having the Composition Effects tab visible to know the values of the dashboard knobs since I use them for effects, and its quite handy to just look at them and know the value.

While writing this post, I also realized that the current behaviour (i.e. opening Layer Properties when selecting a layer) is mainly ideal when setting up. As such an idea popped into my mind, which I think might be helpful to many: that of having two different modes, i.e. Programming mode (preparing content, setting effects, preparing output, etc.) and Operating mode. This might be handy since some of the features have to do with only one of these modes, so they end up taking screen space for nothing. Recently I also saw a post on this forum about implementing separate tabs, and this idea would sort of fit in nicely with my suggestion since you can than use 'workspaces' (such as those used by adobe programs).

I just found workaround by disabling the 'Show Layer Property Panel' from the View menu... silly me
